How we write and check what we publish
The rules behind every lesson, practice task, pre-seen summary, article and guide on Eighty Marks, and how to tell us when we get something wrong.
Our own words, never CIMA's
- CIMA's pre-seens, exam variants, suggested answers, marking guidance and examiner's reports are CIMA's copyright. We don't reproduce them, in whole or in large part.
- Pre-seen summaries and past question summaries are our own short descriptions. For the real documents we link to CIMA's CGMA Study Hub, and we ask you to download the pre-seen from there.
- Practice tasks are written for Eighty Marks, in CIMA's style but not presented as CIMA's. Figures in examples are invented.
What we check against
- The syllabus and blueprints. Exam structure, core activities, syllabus areas and marking terms follow CIMA's published 2026–27 examination blueprints: Operational, Management and Strategic. When CIMA publishes new blueprints or post-exam materials, we check our pages against them again.
- Exam dates. Every date on our exam dates page comes from one table, checked against CIMA's timetable. It was last checked on Friday 16 October 2026, and the page says so.
- Past questions. Each past sub-task is filed under the core activity that CIMA's own marking guidance gives it, with a link to the post-exam materials it came from.
- Marking. Our marks follow CIMA's published 2026–27 marking approach. They are a practice estimate to help you improve, not an official CIMA mark or a prediction of your result.
Who writes and reviews it
- Articles in Insights are written by Dale Heenan, CGMA, FBCS. About us
- Lessons are reviewed against CIMA's published syllabus, and reviewed again when it changes.
- Some practice tasks and summaries are drafted with the help of AI. Every draft needs a person's approval before students see it, and drafts are edited or rejected where needed.
- Every answer is first marked automatically by AI against this scheme. You can query any mark: an independent second marking looks at it first, then a CIMA-qualified (CGMA) moderator if it doesn't settle.
Claims we don't make
- We never say or suggest that CIMA approves, endorses or works with us. Eighty Marks follows CIMA's published 2026–27 marking approach. It is independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by CIMA or AICPA & CIMA.
- We don't call our marks official or CIMA marks. They are a practice estimate, not a CIMA score.
- We don't publish pass rates of our own until we have results to stand behind, with their source and sample size.
- Student quotes appear only with the student's permission, and we don't edit them.
- No ads, and no third-party tracking cookies.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake, from a wrong date to a summary that misreads a task, tell us through the contact page. We check it against the source, correct the page if we got it wrong, and reply to let you know what changed. If a correction changes an exam date, we update the date the timetable was checked as well.
